Why IAMTC     Code of Practice     IAMTC Team

The need for the formation of an association of healthcare and medical technology was identified well over 5 years ago with studies and consultations that have taken place to embolden the call for an organisation that represents the consultants in the industry.  The International Association of Medical Technology Consultants (IAMTC), a professional advocacy organisation was formed as a result of the need.

Series of recent short surveys conducted showed that both the consulting firms and the MedTech industries would like to see the delivery of high quality consulting services as well as implementation of structured accreditation scheme than promotes continuing professional development.  The areas included in the survey were:

  • Regulatory Affairs (Submission and Compliance)

  • Formulation, Design and Development

  • Market Research

  • Clinical Research

  • Healthcare Systems Management

  • Quality Management Systems

  • Manufacturing Systems and Management

  • Documentation Systems and Management

  • Legal Consultation (IPR, copyrights, trademarks, patents, industrial design rights, brand protection and trade secrets)
  • Language translation (IFU, Operating Manuals, Foreign Markets Entry)

200 consultants were involved in the survey which employed the Face-to-face interview approach at the following conferences and exhibitions:

  • BOA Annual Conference - Manchester - 28 September 2007

  • BDTA Dental Showcase 2008, London, 02 October 2008 — 04 October 2008

  • MedTec UK, NEC, Birmingham 25 & 26 March 2009

  • TOPRA Annual Symposium, Clarion Hotel, Stockholm 7-9 October 2009

250 representatives of companies were involved in the surveys that used Face-to-Face interview approach at the following conferences and exhibitions:

  • IADR/AADR/CADR 83rd General Session, Baltimore Convention Center – MD, USA, March 9-12, 2005

  • NHS Confederation Annual Conference & Exhibition, London, UK, 20th - 23th June 2007

  • British Pharmaceutical Conference, Manchester Central, Manchester, Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, 10th - 13th September 2007

  • BOA Annual Conference - Manchester - 28 September 2007

  • BDTA Dental Showcase 2008, London, 02 October 2008 — 04 October 2008

  • MedTec UK, NEC, Birmingham 25 & 26 March 2009

  • TOPRA Annual Symposium, Clarion Hotel, Stockholm 7-9 October 2009

The results of the of the above surveys conducted over a considerable period of time with interviews involving consultants and representatives of the Healthcare and Medical technologies industries for the formation of IAMTC also supported an accompanying programme that minimise the risk in choosing a consultant for a particular project.  It was confirmed that such scheme aimed at evaluating competencency and maintaining trust will benefit the industry in many ways including reducing risk and improve efficiency.
